Here’s why it happened and what to do now. We’ve all heard of that friend of a friend whose tan turned her Shrek-like the night before prom. Either that or you have experienced green underarms or random spots of green straight after a spray tan, so let us explain why your spray tan turned green. Any spray tan solution can turn green, and the reason it does so is that it has oxidized. “Oxidation occurs due to heat or air exposure.” For instance, not placing the lid on the bottle correctly, or perhaps you have left your tan in a warm room or next to the radiator. So, will your green spray tan or self-applied fake tan turn brown? Read on for more information on why this has happened. In a Nutshell: How to prevent your spray tan from going green It’s infrequent for a spray tan to turn green, and the problem usually lies with just how green you look. If your body is entirely green or green-tinged, the problem lies in the tanning salons’ fake tan. However, if you only have specific areas that are green such as your armpits, your face or small patches, it is because you have not appropriately prepped for your spray tan.
Spray tan solution needs to be kept in a cool dark place and must be used within six months of purchase; otherwise, it will go off. Spray tan goes out of date due to ‘oxidization’. Oxidization is the gain of oxygen to a substance, resulting in a greenish spray tan that won’t make you as brown. An interesting fact about fake tans is that they all have different base color ingredients such as blue, red, violet, caramel or green based tones. Most tans are red and green-based. Red is the first color to degrade, and when the red goes, green is the only color leftover, and hey Presto, or should I say ‘pesto’, that’s why you look like a sci-fi character! Some tans do have a slight olive tinge when the initial spray tanning begins, but by the time the body is complete, our client looks brown. Our advice if this happens to you Just leave it to develop. Green fake tan usually washes off in the morning to a brown color; however, it’s a bit worrying and embarrassing. In a busy beauty salon or spray tan studio, it will be unlikely that they will have out of date solution, but a quieter salon that doesn’t perform many spray tans may have had their tan spray stock for a good while, which means it could be past its shelf date. Green in Certain Areas After Tanning If your underarms have turned green, it’s because your deodorant or antiperspirant hasn’t been washed off properly. Products like deodorants, moisturizers, perfumes and make-up cause a reaction with spray tans, and instantly it turns green. Fortunately, this will wash off the next day, and it won’t affect the final color of your spray tan. Before a spray tan, it’s best not to moisturize at all, as you could risk going green. Moisturizer will also create a barrier on your skin, which means the spray tan might not take very well, making your final color lighter than expected. Make sure you go to a good spray tanning salon or beauty salon that will apply the appropriate amount of barrier cream to your dry areas, such as your knees and elbows. Sometimes after a shower, especially if you have dry patches on your skin, shower gel might not budge. This will result in a green reaction in the area where the shower gel or soap hasn’t washed off. To prevent this from happening, make sure you rinse your body thoroughly before your spray tanning session. Does green fake tan wash off? In most cases, yes, the green fake tan will wash off, especially if it is just green because you had deodorant or moisturizer on (see above). If the false tan is off, however, and you are entirely green, once you’ve washed it off, the green sci-fi look usually goes down the drain, and you will be left with a brown tan. Thankfully you have got rid of your Gamora green, and you’ve been left with a brown tan. The reason fake tan goes green is that it’s gone past it’s sell-date, and also, for this reason, that means the DHA ingredient has lost some strength. DHA is the simple carbohydrate inside fake tan bottles that turns you brown. So if your sunless tanner has gone green, this may mean you might not get just as brown as you usually get. How to fix a green spray tan If you read the above, you will know which problem you have. For example, if your tan has green patches where you have put moisturizer, deodorant, sweat or perfumes on, leave your spray tan on your skin. If the spray tan has gone off and you are entirely green, it is unlikely that you won’t be left brown when you wash it off.
Can I wear a fake tan that’s gone green? There’s the tiniest risk of it turning brown/olive toned in the morning, but in my experience, it usually goes brown. However, if you feel extra cautious, test a bit out on your back and see if it washes off to brown in the morning! If you’re wondering how long fake tan bottles last once opened, the answer is usually six months to 1 year. The best way to make your false tan bottle last is to store them in the fridge or a dark and cool cupboard. Credit: https://www.tropicoco-salon.co.uk/spray-tan-turned-green-heres-why/

Do you ever feel like being tan is addicting?! There is some science behind those feelings. Although a lot of the science points to the benefits of sun being the addicting factor, there is just something about being tan that makes you feel more confident and better about how you look. Although I feel that everyone is beautiful just the way they are, I think that a sun-kissed glow or a dark glow the SAFE way is a great way to get you that confidence that you need to really radiate your beauty.
The popularity of tanning is often attributed to Coco Chanel. After returning from the French Riviera with a suntan, thousands of her fans flocked out to the beaches to get the same glow. We now have much safer ways of maintaining that glow that look just as amazing! Read more about it here---
There are lots of tips and tricks that can help you achieve the perfect tan, but there is one that is above and beyond the MOST important!
EXFOLIATING! If you do not exfoliate, you are tanning the top layer of skin, which without exfoliation is mostly dead skin. The tan will be uneven and will fade quicker and not last very long. Follow these steps for the best exfoliation every time.
There you have it! The single most important thing you can do to achieve the perfect spray tan. If you have other tips, leave them below! Our clients LOVE that we use a dusting powder after their tan. It helps keep areas dry that tend to sweat a bit more and keep the tan even. We have used baby powder in the past, but are upgrading to a custom bronze dusting powder that is made of all natural, basic ingredients including: arrowroot powder, cocoa powder, and mica powder.
Now you will smell amazing and have an extra little glimmer to help your tan pop even more. We currently carry the powder at our Davis County tans, but will soon expand to Salt Lake County. See the difference below. Ladies Night Out!!We haven't posted on our blog in a while but that doesn't mean we haven't been out and about! We recently attended a Ladies Night Out event. They had deals on botox, foot massages, tarot cards, blowouts, a dj, and great food and drinks! We will be having another event soon!
We were out getting down and dirty with all the racers! We had a great time! We have one lucky winner who entered our free tanning contest which will be announced in our next email blast! Check out our pictures!

The ceremony only takes one day, but the photos last forever. And although the day belongs to the bride, it makes a lot of difference if the whole wedding party is coordinated. 1. Exfoliate The tan goes on and lasts longer on very well exfoliated skin. 2. Use a solution with as little bronzer as possible If there is a bronzer, there is more of a chance of streaks, and there is a strong likelihood of the bronzer getting into your pores. When you will sweat in your wedding dress, you will get brown stains on the inside of it, especially in the places that your dress is tight. Most of the stains will come out, but it is almost impossible to take them out of silk or satin. (If you have a tan with a bronzer anyway, then one way to protect the dress is to dust your body with baby powder. When you will sweat, most of the moisture and the color will be absorbed by the baby powder.) 3. Don’t get a tan, get a glow. Dark tan just does not look good with a white wedding dress and will most likely look fake. The effect you should be aiming for is a light, golden hue. The effect will be just a glow, that will make your eyes sparkle, your hair shine, and will give you the brightest smile ever, due to your teeth appearing whiter. So subtle, that you guests will be commenting on how radiant you look, not how good your fake tan presents. 4. Make sure, that you take extra care with your hands and feet when spray tanning. Hands and feet absorb the most solution, because the skin is the most dry. Make sure that before you get your wedding spray tan, you spread barrier cream evenly over hands and feet (don't forget between the toes). After the spray tan, wipe your hands, feet, nails (around cuticles) and knuckles especially well with wet wipes, or simply wash them with soap. Concentrate on wiping your palms and under your feet. 5. Make sure you purchase a bottle of touch up solution. A wedding spray tan should be better than perfect. Some small imperfections might have to be repaired; it would be silly if such a small thing would have to be on your mind on the day of the wedding. Additionally, since you already have your tan, you might want to keep it in good condition, not only for the wedding day, but also for the honeymoon. 6. Apart from bride and groom, spray tan members of your wedding party. It is sooooo worth it! If you have to save on something, make bridesmaids' dresses simpler, with a spray tan anything that they will wear will look better anyway. For those macho types, make it fun, bring a camera, take pictures of each other being spray tanned, and have a giggle. Make sure you ask for a wedding spray tan package (especially if you are spray tanning more than two people). Most salons will give you a better deal. 7. Have a trial run. If you never had a spray tan, it is not really an option to skip this step. Spray tan solution is a cosmetic. It’s best to know beforehand how it will react with your skin. Take no chances, and have a trial run. Buy the touch up solution at that time as well, so you can experiment and be confident about repairs on the wedding day. 8.Have your wedding spray tan in the same salon that your trial. Don't just think, "Well, my skin reacts well to spray tan". Different solution might have different effects! Make sure you spray tan with the same solution that you were happy with. 9.Have your wedding spray tan in the same salon that your trial. Don't just think, "Well, my skin reacts well to spray tan". Different solution might have different effects! Make sure you spray tan with the same solution that you were happy with. 10. Take a photo of yourself with your tan after the trial. For the REAL perfectionists. This way you will see what your skin will look like on your wedding photos. |
